Laboratory for sampling, preconditioning and isolation of samples for the study of biodiversity and ecosystem studies in mountainous areas

The laboratory is designed to ensure the sampling, conditioning, and transportation of samples to other laboratories within the University of Bucharest that will enable further analysis. The laboratory incorporates equipment for sampling from terrestrial and aquatic environments, enabling either long-term storage or immediate processing for the separation and preliminary identification of compounds/organisms of interest.

Equipment

Collecting and transporting bilogical samples+Storing samples at different temperatures

  • Water sampling and filtration device
  • Biologic sample transport device
  • Ice maker
  • Peristaltic pump
  • Freezer
  • Refrigerator

Preparing media, reagents, materials and laboratory supplies

  • Material sterilization: a sterilization oven
  • Weighing samples and laboratory substances: an analytical balance
  • Dissolving solutions: a magnetic stirrer
  • Determining the pH values of samples, environments, and solutions: a pH meter

Processing biological samples:

  • Centrifuges for large and small volumes that can centrifuge at low temperatures of up to -100 °C – used to separate liquid samples from solid ones
  • Vortex
  • Thermostatic water baths with or without sonication- homogenization and sample preparation
  • Stereomicroscope
  • Optical microscope
  • Inverted microscope with acquisition system
